So, my father is seventy-eight, my mother is seventy-seven. They absolutely live for their two weeks down the jersey shore every year. They sit on the sand. Walk the beaches. Shop in the local stores. Have breakfast at their favorite shop. The beach is precious to them.
At the end of the day, I don't think it matters if you paddle out every day, on the weekends or walk those beaches once a year. What I believe matters is protecting our beaches for our kids and their kids.
As the year comes to a close, I like to personally reflect… What did I accomplish this year, what do I want to do next?
We started East Coast Surf Company in the Fall of 2023 to, among other things, support Surf Activism.
The Surfrider foundation https://www.surfrider.org fights every day to protect our beaches. They clean up, fight for clean water, battle for beach access, and generally tackle a lot of other issues.
It doesn't take much to support them, heck you can write it off.
But I would like to tie in our other reason for being and that is localism. Getting out and working with your local chapter is everything, because our most precious gift is time. Signing up and volunteering with your chapter connects you to the community, it helps keep the beaches clean and at the end of the day - you just feel good. You can find your local chapter on that site above.
As the year comes to a close, make a difference, Protect What You Love and do something that will make you feel good next year.
Happy New Year from EC SURF CO / East Coast Surf Company
